Sometimes life throws you funny little coincidences, and recently one dropped into my lap. I was halfheartedly on the hunt for a different face primer to transition my face and makeup through the warmer months when Skindinavia contacted me asking if I’d like to review theirs in honor of their 10 year anniversary.
Before I was contacted, I hadn’t heard of the company, so researched to find that Skindinavia was created in 2005 in an unlikely place– a Miami nightclub. In a nutshell, a cosmetics industry veteran named Allen Goldman had a “lightbulb moment” being surrounded by so many beautiful women, but with the unfortunate thing in common: melting makeup (shiny foundation, streaked bronzer, etc).
Allen Goldman decided to seek out a method to create a product that would help regulate the temperature of makeup to prevent it from overheating, so he earned access to top national chemists where he observed a new temperature-control technology that could provide a time-released cooling property on the surface of the skin when needed. He came up with the idea to use this to prevent melting makeup.
Bing, bang, boom. Skindinavia was born!
Ten years later, Skindinavia is used in New York and Los Angeles as it greatly reduces the need for touch-ups on set during long days and under hot studio lighting. It’s also used with Vegas showgirls performing in 110 degree heat and on Lady Gaga’s international tours.
Skindinavia Makeup Primer Spray (4 oz; $35)- I received the oil control Makeup Artist’s Kit which includes both the Makeup Primer Spray and the Makeup Finishing Spray. This spray is paraben free and cruelty free and is supposed to help reduce the appearance of large pores. I wish, in a way, that the mist was sprayed on just a little bit softer because I feel I’d have better control of how much I use, but I’m more than happy with the job it did with oil control and making my face a nice canvas for my makeup to sit atop so it doesn’t seep into my skin or disappear.
Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray (4 oz ; $29)- Again, oil-free and paraben-free. This mist dispensed the same as the primer spray which made me initially gasp “Oh no! I totally ruined the job I just did!” because I thought I applied it too heavy and my makeup just “Splatted” with the spritzes, but it wasn’t the case. This spray did a nice job sealing in my makeup leaving me with a shine-free face. The result is my makeup stays put longer and a few hours later, I’m not getting the feeling that I need to rub it off because it’s so greasy.
