May 2015 Birchbox Review: PLUS $1 BIRCHBOX OFFER

Birchbox May 2015

May 2015 Birchbox: Cupcakes and Cashmere

Yet again, another beautiful Birchbox! I remember when they were just brown, brown, brown.  It actually wasn’t too long ago.  Nowadays it feels like more of a treat to open every month.

In case you aren’t familiar, Birchbox is a subscription box service where you receive 4-6 beauty and lifestyle samples delivered to your mailbox every month. Boxes usually consist of samples, deluxe samples, and sometimes full-sized products. (To view my past Birchbox reviews, click here.) {EDIT: TO GET YOUR FIRST BIRCHBOX FOR $1, CLICK HERE AND USE “TATIOFFER” COUPON CODE — not sure how long this offer is good for! }

One of the perks of being a Birchbox subscriber is their awesome reward point system. Every 100 points you receive equals $10 you can spend in the Birchbox shop on full-sized products.  Points expire within a year being issued, so you can save them up, but you can’t hoard them forever! (I redeem a lot of mine for my haircare products that I usually have to spend my $$ on, so I end up saving a lot of money by doing this!)

One way to receive reward points is to review the samples you receive in your Birchbox. For each review you submit, you receive 10 Birchbox points. So, for instance, I received 5 products this month. That is 50 points I’ll be receiving just for reviews which equals $5.  So as you can see, they’re really easy to accumulate.

Every month, Birchbox has a box theme.  The theme for May 2015 is “Cupcakes and Cashmere” which is a theme based around a book by Emily Schuman.

Although every month the contents of subscribers’ boxes are a surprise, you can control the type of content you receive in your boxes by filling out your profile. So as a subscriber, I can click if I enjoy hair samples more so than cosmetics, how experienced I consider myself to be with beauty products, etc, and they curate my box according to these preferences, hoping that I’ll be able to make the most out of my samples.  I think there’s somewhere between 30-50 variations of boxes each month!

Birchbox Contents:

Amika Perk up Dry Shampoo

Amika Perk up Dry Shampoo

amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($2.97)- The other amika product I used was a hair mask, and to be honest I couldn’t remember if I liked it or not!   But I loved this dry shampoo and used it on a second day of non washed hair. It gave great volume, had a pleasant smell and is made of rice starch, so it’s safe to use on color treated hair.  I may purchase with my Birchbox points!

The Porefessional Benefit

Benefit Cosmetics PoreFessional

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional ($4.26)- Okay, this is one of my f-a-v-o-r-i-t-e products out there. I so privileged to have large pores passed down to me, and this stuff is the best on the market that I’ve ever tried to actually minimize them and smooth out and soften my skin in general.  I was really excited to see a sample of it in my box because I can never get enough of it!

Laura Geller Beauty Color Drenched Lip Gloss

Laura Geller Beauty Color Drenched Lip Gloss

Laura Geller Beauty Color Drenched Lip Gloss: Cafe au Lait ($6.33)- This is such a pretty universal color. Sometimes Birchbox shoots us an email and lets us select one of the samples in our box, giving us around 3 options to pick from, and I remember that this was what I chose out of the three. I can never have enough lip glosses in my collection.

marcelle Clay Mask

marcelle Clay Mask

Marcelle Clay Mask ($2.22)- I haven’t used this yet but I love clay masks, so I can’t wait to use it. This is a nice size and I think I’ll get a few uses out of it!

Naobay Oxyenating Cream Moisturizer

Naobay Oxyenating Cream Moisturizer

Naobay ($14.40)- I’ve used body lotion from this brand, I think. Ooh, the info card says this face moisturizer is made with avocado and olive oils.  I’m definitely excited to give it a go.  It smells really good!

Conclusion:

After I totaled the price of the samples up, I came to $30.18 which is triple the $10/a month it costs to subscribe. If I add in the $5 in rewards points I get for reviewing the products on the Birchbox website, it brings it up to $35.18  which is a phenomenal value!

This box was a great deal! I think I’ve tried a sample of the pore professional and it worked really well.

The POREfessional…that was so clever I would have to try it based on the punniness.

I’m most interested in trying the amika perk up dry shampoo…I have really dry itchy scalp and I hate the way Head and Shoulders smells.

    Thanks!

  3. Stacie says:

Cute box this month! I’ve been wondering how well a dry shampoo would work on my hair. I’ll have to look into it.

Hi Celeste, whenever I read your Birchwood Box review I think how exciting it must be to open up your box every month. I haven’t seen a clay face mask in years, me and Catherine end up using a Nivea one or making our own for a laugh (an if we are feeling peckish).

The lip gloss would be the perfect colour for me too!

    xx
