Check it out! I was nominated for a Liebster Award by Jen from JENerally Informed. A Liebster is an award for up and coming bloggers with less than 500 followers that someone believes deserves recognition. I’ve only been blogging here at Leapfrog and Lipgloss for a short time, so thanks, Jen, I’m honored!
Here are the Rules
If you’re nominated for the award you must:
- Make a post about the award, thanking the blogger that nominated you.
- State 11 interesting facts about yourself
- Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger that nominated you
- Nominate 11 new bloggers with 500 or less followers
- Write 11 new questions for your nominees
So without further ado, here are 11 facts about me:
⋆ I have a habit I just can’t seem to kick: Diet Coke!
⋆ I’ve been 5’8″ since around the 8th grade, and growing up, my height made me pretty self-conscious, so I avoided wearing heels. Eventually I got over it because I realized that life is just too short not to wear the cute shoes. These days, my tallest pair of shoes puts me about 6’2″ and I no longer give a damn.
⋆ I have name that’s not-so-common (Celeste) and all of my life people have been fumbling over it. For some reason, many substitute teachers and receptionists tend to call me “Chelsea”. This has happened multiple times. One lady even tried arguing with me after I politely corrected her, telling me her friend’s name was spelled exactly like my name, but pronounced “Chelsea”.
⋆ A couple years ago, I was filmed for a television media piece in New York about how young women can utilize social media to garner sales and generate buzz online. It aired on MTV before the season premier of Jersey Shore.
⋆ I’ve lived in Missouri all of my life, love traveling around the country, but have never traveled outside of the United States. I’ve always had dreams of going to France!
⋆ I’m a fan of baseball and am lucky to live in a town that has the best team! Go, St. Louis Cards!
⋆ I won an all-expense paid trip last year to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles that was filmed for HBO last year. My friend Sarah and I received front-row tickets, and we got to watch the rehearsals, go behind the scenes to the press-line, use the celebrity exclusive bar and restroom (haha), plus after-party tickets. The inductees were Rush, Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Albert King, Quincy Jones, and Lou Adler. I was really impressed to be surrounded by such great talent, however there was a special guest star, that I had no idea would be on the roster: OPRAH. When she came out on stage, I was totally caught off-guard and instantly transformed into one of those “favorite things” people you see on her show.
⋆ Growing up, I wanted to be an actress. However, when I reached high school I snapped into reality when I realized that I was terrible at memorizing lines… and doing pretty much anything else drama related, as well.
⋆ I am deathly afraid of worms or anything that remotely resembles them, but when we moved into this house in October, I was quick to discover that our mulch out front was infested with millipedes! My driveway was a SEA of millipedes and it would take every ounce of my being to walk out the front door. I’d literally have to psych myself up and talk myself down from a panic attack. And then I’d shutter and gag as I would back out of the driveway.
⋆ If I had the choice between: 1) Traveling somewhere with a warm climate with nothing but the ocean and beach to relax on or 2) Traveling somewhere chilly, but with lots of culture and activity, I’d pick #2 every time.
⋆ When my daughters were young, I appreciated who they were of course, but I couldn’t wait for the fun times we’d have when they were ages 5-8. To me, those seemed like the ideal ages to have tons of fun… Old enough to where they wouldn’t freak out if they didn’t take a nap, young enough to still want to hang out with their cool, hip mom… young enough to where everything seems fresh, new, and fun. I was right. My daughters are currently 5 and 8 and we’ve just been having the best time!
The 11 Answers to Jen’s Questions:
1 ) Sneakers or Heels?
Um… what about house slippers… I’m a stay-at-home mom, lol. Okay, seriously, between sneakers and heels, I’d have to say a healthy toss-up between both. I love finding excuses to wear heels, but when I’m not, you can usually find me sporting black converse.
2) What are you reading right now?
A book borrowed from my brother: “A Tale for the Time Being” by Ruth Ozeki
3) If you could have any meal right now what would it be and why?
I ate a savory meal of a fresh shell-fish assortment in a beach-side seafood shack in California with my friend Laura in 2007 that I’ve never forgotten because the way it was lightly seasoned was SO scrumptious. I’d eat it every day.
4) What is the most important lesson you have ever learned from a stranger?
To simply “Be Kind”. One time, when I was pregnant, I had a mad craving for fish and chips, so my husband I and went out to eat. At the end of our meal, an older gentleman (one I had initially thought looked pretty stern and gruff) came up to us and said we made him feel happy because it reminded him of the excitement of bringing a new baby into the world, and he gave me $10 and asked me to buy the baby a stuffed animal. We left and did just that. It wound up being one of her favorites:
I’ll never forget the kindness of a stranger.
5) Do you love a rainy night or not?
I don’t because my daughter is scared of rainy weather.
6) You have 5 minutes to leave your house, besides your family what items would you grab?
I’d grab all of my photo files
7) Who do you like best Elsa or Anna (Frozen)?
Elsa. Anna’s a tad on the hyper-side for me.
8) Who is one person who has most impacted your life and why?
My brother. I don’t think I would’ve quite made it out of my childhood & adolescence in one piece if it wasn’t for his friendship and companionship.
9) Why do you blog?
I started blogging about 14 years ago, but mostly under the platform of Live Journal, where it was mostly like a private online diary with only a few select readers. I kept a few other blogs here and there over the years: work-related, kid updates for relatives or whatnot, but after a break from blogging for a couple years, got the itch and wanted to start a blog that was a public project that encompassed everything I loved.
10) If there is one statement that summed up who you are, what is it and why?
Toughie! How about: “I’m not weird, I’m limited edition”.
Hmm, that sounds like a a slogan from a tacky shirt you’d find on a clearance rack. Well, nevermind… I’m keeping it.
11) Ice cream, candy, or baked goods- which is your favorite?
