As a newly single mom, it was my goal this summer to bond with my girls more than ever by spending lots of quality time with each other as a family– whether it be at home reading together, watching movies together, or going out to find fun (and affordable!) things to do in the city. Having friends join us on our excursions was another goal of mine because friends = fun and I just wanted my girls to look back on this summer remembering how much they laughed :).
Obviously, when the girls and I are out and about doing activities, we need to pause at certain time to eat or snack. It’s not in my budget at this time to always dine out. It’s tempting and would be convenient just to stop for fast food for sure, but I’d much rather budget that money for quality time spent together doing activities, so I’ve found myself packing a cooler of edible goodies for us this summer.
Our place that is our “Snackation Destination” is WalMart usually because it’s conveniently close and the prices are right.
I was recently asked by the J.M. Smucker Company if I’d like to check out some of their products at my local WalMart to bring as snacks on my latest summer adventure with my girls, so off we went to prepare for the Balloon Glow Fest!
We first stopped at the Smucker’s Uncrustables Freezer. The Strawberry flavor must be off-the-hook because nearly all of them were snatched up! When I initially heard of Uncrustables, I’ll admit that I thought they’d be a fad because making a PB&J sandwich is about the easiest thing in the world. It seemed a little nutso to have a “convenience version” of those. But the kids get really excited over these because they’re a bit different than “just a sandwich”, so they’re a nice treat to pick up sometimes!
Over by the packaged diced fruits and applesauce, we found Smucker’s Fruit-Fulls which are the to-go pouch containers with fruit sauce inside. These fruit sauce pouches seem to have exploded within the last couple years because they’re everywhere now. I initially thought they were just for babies, but even adults have embraced them because they’re more convenient than packing a spoon for a container of applesauce.
Lastly, we looked over at the Smucker’s fruit spreads. I’m old-fashioned and prefer jams and jellies from a jar. The girls like the squeeze bottles so they can help make sandwiches easier. I like trying all different flavors, but I think the most ~classic~ crowd-pleasing favorites are probably Strawberry and Grape.
So, after we purchased our goodies, I snapped a pic of Charlotte in her carseat holding the Walmart back of Smucker’s goodies and I started to put the cart away when she goes, “So…was that the perfectly epic pic?” I was so shocked by the lingo, I burst out laughing and she goes, “What?? What does that even mean, Mama?”
Yes, Charlotte, now that you said THAT, this pic of my 7 year old holding a Walmart bag of jelly is definitely epic:
This is part 1 of a 2 part mini-series! In the next post, I’m documenting our trip to the Balloon Glow Fest in Eureka, Missouri!
