I love Nicole– she has a great sense of style and I thought the products included in this box looked awesome, so I picked this one!
In case you aren’t familiar, Birchbox is a subscription box service where you receive 4-6 beauty and lifestyle samples delivered to your mailbox every month. Boxes usually consist of samples, deluxe samples, and sometimes full-sized products. (To view my past Birchbox reviews, click here.)
One of the perks of being a Birchbox subscriber is their awesome reward point system (which in my opinion, puts them in a high league than many subscription box services). Every 100 points you receive equals $10 you can spend in the Birchbox shop on full-sized products. Points expire within a year being issued, so you can save them up, but you can’t hoard them forever! (I’m about to redeem some of mine… I’ll post about it next month!)
There are a several ways to receive Birchbox Points. You can receive them from referring friends to join Birchbox, for shopping in the Birchbox store and sometimes they’ll pop you a surprise special promo codes to receive even more points for shopping during a specific time-frame. One super easy way to receive reward points is to review the samples you receive in your Birchbox. For each review you submit, you receive 10 Birchbox points. So, for instance, I received 5 products this month. That is 50 points I’ll be receiving just for reviews which equals $5. So as you can see, they’re really easy to accumulate.
Although every month the contents of subscribers’ boxes are a surprise, you can control the type of content you receive in your boxes by filling out your profile. So as a subscriber, I can click if I enjoy hair samples more so than cosmetics, how experienced I consider myself to be with beauty products, etc, and they curate my box according to these preferences, hoping that I’ll be able to make the most out of my samples. I think there’s somewhere between 30-50 variations of boxes each month!
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant ($9.75)- I received this last month! But this isn’t a mistake on Birchbox‘s part. Last month I stuck with my normal box of surprises. This month I chose the themed Nicole Richie box and I knew this would be included, which I was happy to receive a double! I sent my tube last month to my swap sister Valerie!
LaQa & Co. Lip Crayon in Humble Brag ($6.67)- I’m all about lip crayons and am so happy they’ve made a come-back. This is a multi-tasker for lips and cheeks and the color I received is a rose color.
Opi Venice Collection: A Great Opera-tunity ($2.36)- This is a really nice nude color from their fall/winter 2015 collection.
Rene Furterer LISSEA Leave-in Smoothing Fluid ($3.69)- I used this to blow straight my hair and it worked well. It didn’t weigh my hair down or make it feel full of product and the fragrance was appealing to me.
St. Tropez Gradual In-Shower Tan ($5.96)- Oh man, I REALLY wanted to love this because the concept is great and convenient to me. Basically, you wash yourself in the shower like normal, turn off the water and apply this lotion, then rinse with warm water after 3 mins. It’s a product that gives a natural-looking glow eventually with use, but I couldn’t notice a difference. Maybe I just didn’t use it long enough for something? Regardless, it smelled amazing. I usually don’t care for the way self-tanners smell.
After I totaled the price of the samples up, I came to $28.43 which is more than triple the $10/a month it costs to subscribe. If I add in the $5 in rewards points I get for reviewing the products on the Birchbox website, it brings it up to $33.43 which is a great value!
