In case you aren’t familiar, Birchbox is a subscription box service where you receive 4-6 beauty and lifestyle samples delivered to your mailbox every month. Boxes usually consist of samples, deluxe samples, and sometimes full-sized products.
One of the perks of being a Birchbox subscriber is their awesome reward system. Every 100 points you receive equals $10 you can spend in the Birchbox shop on full-sized products. I’ve been hoarding my points to spend on something really good! (They do expire within a year of being issued, though, so I need to be mindful about that. That’s not a bad thing, though… I’m starting to get the itch to spend them!).
One way to receive reward points is to review the samples you receive in your Birchbox. For each review you submit, you receive 10 Birchbox points. So, for instance, I received 6 products this month. That is 60 points I’ll be receiving just for reviews which equals $6. So as you can see, they’re really easy to accumulate.
A few other ways to receive points: If you sign up for a 3,6, or 12 month subscription, if you refer friends to subscribe, or by shopping in the Birchbox shop.
The theme in the April 2014 Birchbox was “Rainy Days”. I personally couldn’t see how most of the products I received flowed with the theme, but I thought the packaging was pretty, nonetheless. Along with the regular information card, all Birchbox subscribers received a “Rainy Days” tip card this month. I got tip #20 that speaks about curling up with a magazine.
Color Club Gala’s Gems Collection ($3.25)- This nail polish is in the color “Gold Struck”, but it looks more like a pearly pink champagne color to me. It goes on pretty sheer, so you need a couple coats. It’s sold in a set of 4 polishes in the Birchbox site and it might be a cute set to gift a younger girl.
Oi Absolute Beautifying Shampoo ($1.08)- This shampoo and conditioner set made my hair feel so incredibly clean, but not stripped of oils. This duo is packed with antioxidants and natural ingredients and oils and made my hair feel really silk and shiny. I was hesitant to try this initially is because is has volumizing properties, which is something I definitely DON’T need, but it turned out a-okay. Would consider purchasing in the future!
Oi Absolute Beautifying Conditioner ($1.56)- See above!
Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Wash ($2.40)- This was the one product I felt went with the “Rainy Days” theme because the fragrance reminds me of a mix of fresh morning dew and cantaloupe. This foams up really nice and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and hydrated. This is my box favorite this month!
Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner- Jamun ($4.80)- It’s hard to see in the photo, but this shade is actually a deep greyish purple. What I like about this pencil is that it’s blendable, so if you desire, you can create a soft smokey eye with it. It’s a wax pencil, that glides on smoothly and doesn’t tug.
KIND Snacks Healthy Grains Bar ($.79)- This came in the flavor “Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt” and I wish I could relate exactly how it tasted, but my husband snatched it and ate it on his commute to work! I told him I needed to review it for the blog, so he texted back his review: “It was very good.”
Golly… what a wordsmith! Too bad he’s not a blogger, eh?
So, after totaling everything in my April Birchbox, I reached $13.88. If I include my $6 I receive for reviewing the products on the site, I reach $19.88 which is nearly double the $10/month price for the box.
